Streaming from a Phone

Last updated: October 24, 2026

You can sell live from a phone. Streamster accepts any standard RTMPS stream, and the setup checklist on your dashboard sets up Larix Broadcaster (iPhone and Android) for you: scan one code and your Streamster connection is added. OBS on a computer is one option, not a requirement. Read the limits below before you plan a long live.

Honest limits

  • Larix's free version is 30 minutes per live. After 30 minutes Larix adds its own watermark for another 30 minutes, then stops the stream. Larix Premium ($9.99/month or $119/year, sold by Softvelum, not Streamster) removes both. For a longer live without paying, use OBS on a computer. PRISM Live Studio also accepts a custom RTMP server (paste the Server URL and Stream Key).
  • Getting your Facebook or Instagram key. Facebook's persistent key comes from Live Producer (a desktop page; save it in Streamster once). Instagram-only sellers don't need a key during setup: choose “I'll paste my Instagram key when I go live”, then paste a fresh key from Instagram Live in the Go live panel before each Instagram live.
  • No on-screen Buy card from a phone. The card is an OBS Browser Source; phone apps can't add it. Pin your link (streamster.shop/@yourname) as the first comment and say the item's code: viewers type it on your link to hold the item while they pay. Buyers on your Streamster watch page still see the card.
  • Instagram is vertical. Instagram shows live video as 9:16. Hold the phone upright for Instagram; landscape video gets cropped.
  • Phones get hot and drain fast. Plug in, use Wi‑Fi rather than cellular, and turn on Do Not Disturb so a call can't interrupt the stream.

1. Set up Larix with one scan

  1. Install Larix Broadcaster from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. On your dashboard, open Test your camera (phone or computer) in the setup checklist and pick Phone.
  3. On a computer: scan the code with your phone's camera (on Android, any QR scanner app). On the phone itself: tap Open in Larix. Larix asks to add a connection called Streamster: accept it.
  4. Press Larix's round record button, then I've started streaming, check now on the dashboard. The step ticks within seconds of your video reaching us, with a still from your camera. Nothing goes to Facebook or Instagram during this test, and it isn't billed.

The code holds your private Stream Key: don't share it or post a screenshot of it. (It uses Larix's documented “Larix Grove” import link, larix://set/v1?conn[][url]=….)

2. Or add the connection by hand

  1. In Larix tap the settings (gear) icon → Connections → New connection.
  2. In URL, paste the Server URL, then a /, then your Stream Key (both are under Another app, or set it up by hand in the same step):
    rtmps://global-live.mux.com:443/app/YOUR-STREAM-KEY
  3. Give it a name (for example “Streamster”), save it, and make sure it's the only connection switched on.

Other RTMP apps work the same way: look for a Custom RTMP server and paste the Server URL and Stream Key (some apps have separate fields for each).

3. Pick sensible video settings

  • Resolution 1280×720 (720p), 30 fps
  • Bitrate around 2,500–4,000 Kbps on good Wi‑Fi
  • Keyframe interval 2 seconds

4. Go live, same order as OBS

  1. On Streamster's Go live panel (it works in your phone's browser), paste a fresh Instagram key if you're using Instagram, then tap Prepare to go live.
  2. Then switch to Larix and tap the record/stream button. The Go live panel flips to “Receiving your stream”.
  3. Press Go Live on Facebook and/or Instagram, as you would with OBS.
  4. While you're live, the Go live panel shows each sale as it comes in, your totals and the line-up (Next item). See Live selling tools.
  5. When you're done, stop the stream in Larix and tap End broadcast & disconnect platforms in Streamster. Your show summary opens from there and arrives by email.

If the panel keeps waiting for your feed, the cause is almost always the URL: check there is exactly one / between/app and your key, with no spaces. More fixes: Troubleshooting.
