How to Add and Manage Products for Live Selling

Last updated: June 30, 2026

What this page helps you do: create product listings buyers can purchase during your stream, and feature them as overlays.

Adding a product to Streamster takes less than 2 minutes. From your seller dashboard, upload one product image, write a name and description, set a price and stock count, and save. During live streams, you can feature any product as an overlay for instant viewer checkout. Streamster supports unlimited products on both plans.

Adding a New Product

In your seller dashboard, open Products and click Add Product. The form has these fields:

  1. Product Name (required) — be specific and descriptive. Include brand, size, color, and key features. Example: "Nike Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG — Size 10 — New with Box"
  2. Description — material, measurements, condition (new/used), notable features, and any flaws. The more detail you provide, the more confident buyers will be.
  3. Price (required) — your selling price.
  4. Compare Price (optional) — a higher "was" price to show a markdown.
  5. Stock — how many units are available. Stock decrements automatically as items sell, or tick Unlimited stock (made-to-order) to skip the count.
  6. SKU (optional) — your own product code.
  7. Product Image — drag and drop, click to browse, or paste an image URL. One image per product (see specs below).

✓ What success looks like: the product appears in your Products list with its image and price, ready to feature during a stream — and it automatically has its own buy link.

Product Photo Best Practices

Each product has one main image, and it's the #1 factor in live-selling conversions. Make it count:

GuidelineRecommendation
Recommended size1080×1080 pixels (square)
FormatJPG, PNG, WebP, or GIF
Max file size5 MB
BackgroundClean, well-lit (white or neutral preferred)
FramingFill the frame with the product; show its best angle

Pro tip: Use natural daylight or a ring light. Avoid flash photography — it washes out colors and hides texture details that buyers want to see. You can show extra angles and details live on camera during your stream.

Writing Effective Product Descriptions

A great product description answers every question a buyer might have before they ask it:

  • What is it? — Brand, model, type of product
  • What condition is it in? — New, like new, gently used, vintage
  • What are the specifics? — Size, color, material, dimensions, weight
  • Are there any flaws? — Be honest about scratches, stains, or wear. Transparency builds trust.
  • What's included? — Original box, accessories, certificates of authenticity

Pricing Tips for Live Selling

  1. Research comparable prices — check eBay sold listings, Whatnot, and Poshmark for similar items
  2. Start slightly below market — live selling audiences expect deals. Price 10-20% below retail to create urgency.
  3. Use round numbers — $25 converts better than $24.99 in live selling contexts
  4. Bundle products — offer discounts for multi-item purchases to increase average order value

Managing Inventory

Streamster tracks inventory automatically. When a buyer completes a purchase, the stock count decrements in real time, and checkout is protected against overselling — a unit is reserved the moment a buyer starts paying, so two buyers can't claim the last one. When stock reaches zero, the product is marked sold out and can't be purchased.

  • Made-to-order: tick Unlimited stock (made-to-order) on a product to sell without a stock cap.
  • Real-time editing: update price, description, or stock during a live stream without interrupting your broadcast.
  • Reserved vs available: products show how many units are reserved by in-progress checkouts, so your available count is always accurate.
  • Sold-out handling: sold-out products stay in your catalog but are not purchasable.

Shipping weight & dimensions

Shipping is calculated from each product's own weight and dimensions, which you set in the product editor. Streamster uses them to fetch live shipping rates and buy labels.

  1. When you add or edit a product, enter its Weight (oz) and Length / Width / Height (in). Physical products require a weight before they can be shipped.
  2. Add your ship-from address under Settings → Shipping so carriers can rate and label your shipments.
  3. Optionally set a default package size under Settings → Shipping — Streamster falls back to it for any product that doesn't have its own dimensions.

Set weight before you ship. If a product's weight and dimensions or your ship-from address are missing, Streamster can't fetch shipping rates and you'll see an error on the Orders page. You can still adjust the box per order when you buy a label. Buying labels in-app (Shippo) is a Pro feature; Starter sellers ship with their own carrier and add tracking manually. See Orders & Fulfillment.

Product Overlays During Streams

One of Streamster's most powerful features is live product overlays. During a stream, click any product to "feature" it — an overlay appears on your stream showing the product name, photo, price, and a one-click buy button for viewers.

Overlays are the key to converting viewers into buyers during live streams:

  • Feature a product — click the product in your dashboard to display it on stream
  • Auto-dismiss — overlays automatically hide after a set time, or dismiss manually
  • Queue products — prepare a product lineup before your stream and cycle through them
  • Real-time stock — viewers see remaining inventory on the overlay, creating urgency

Product Limits by Plan

Bulk-importing products

Already have a catalog elsewhere? You don't have to retype it. Use CSV import, which is one-way into Streamster (it never writes back to your other store):

  • CSV import — upload a product CSV (export it from your existing store or tool, keeping the supported columns). Best for large or one-off imports. See CSV Import.

Imported items become normal Streamster products you can edit, price, and feature like any other.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many products can I list on Streamster?

Both the Starter and Pro plans include unlimited product listings. You can upgrade your plan at any time from your dashboard settings.

Can I bulk-import products?

Yes. Upload a product CSV and Streamster creates products with titles, descriptions, prices, and images. The import is one-way into Streamster — it does not write inventory back to your other store, and it is not an automatic background sync. See CSV Import.

What image works best for product listings?

Each product has one main image. We recommend a square photo around 1080×1080 pixels in JPG, PNG, WebP, or GIF format, up to 5MB. Use good lighting and a clean background — it's the single biggest factor in live-selling conversions. Show extra angles live on camera during your stream.

Can I edit products while live streaming?

Yes. You can update prices, descriptions, and inventory counts in real-time from your live selling dashboard without interrupting your stream. This is useful for flash sales, price adjustments based on viewer demand, or adding newly arrived inventory.
