RTMP (Real-Time Messaging Protocol) is the standard protocol used to send live video from your computer to Streamster's servers. To stream on Streamster, you need RTMP-compatible software like OBS Studio or Streamlabs, plus your Server URL and Stream Key from your dashboard. Setup takes about 5 minutes and you only need to do it once.
You point OBS at Streamster ONCE, with a single destination. There is no obs-multi-rtmp plugin and no multiple outputs to configure. OBS sends one stream to Streamster, and Streamster fans it out to Facebook and Instagram in the cloud (Mux simulcast). That means you only use enough upload bandwidth for one stream.

Where to Find Your Server URL and Stream Key
- Log in to your Streamster seller dashboard
- Open the Setup wizard or the Go-live stepper (the "Connect OBS" step shows your values)
- Copy your Server URL — your private Mux ingest address:
rtmps://global-live.mux.com:443/app - Copy your Stream Key — a private, unique alphanumeric string shown right next to the Server URL
Both values come from your dashboard, sourced from Mux. There is nothing to type by hand — just copy them from the "Connect OBS" step into OBS.
Important: Your stream key is like a password. Never share it publicly or paste it in a live stream. If compromised, regenerate it from your dashboard settings.
OBS Studio Setup (Recommended)
OBS Studio is a free, open-source streaming application available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. It is the most popular encoder for live sellers due to its reliability, customization options, and zero cost.
Step-by-Step OBS Configuration
- Download and install OBS Studio from obsproject.com
- Open OBS and go to Settings → Stream
- Set Service to Custom...
- Paste your Streamster Server URL (
rtmps://global-live.mux.com:443/app) in the Server field - Paste your Stream Key in the Stream Key field
- Go to Settings → Output and set:
- Output Mode: Advanced
- Encoder: x264 (or NVENC if you have an NVIDIA GPU)
- Rate Control: CBR
- Bitrate: 4500 Kbps
- Keyframe Interval: 2 seconds
- CPU Usage Preset: veryfast
- Profile: high
- Go to Settings → Video and set:
- Base (Canvas) Resolution: 1280×720
- Output (Scaled) Resolution: 1280×720 (720p — the recommended default)
- FPS: 30
- Click Apply then OK
- Prepare to go live first. In your dashboard's Go-live stepper, click "Prepare to go live" so Streamster can attach Facebook and Instagram while the stream is idle
- Only then click Start Streaming in OBS — your stream will appear in your Streamster dashboard within seconds
Order matters (arm, then start). Streamster can only attach your Facebook and Instagram destinations while the stream is idle. Always click "Prepare to go live" in the dashboard before you press Start Streaming in OBS. - Download and install Streamlabs from streamlabs.com
- Open Streamlabs and go to Settings (gear icon)
- Click Stream in the left sidebar
- Set Stream Type to Custom Streaming Server
